I am thinking about replacing the platter 1 TB HDD (part of the fusion setup) on my 2014 5k iMac to a 2TB SSD. This way I hope to have a 128GB blade SSD and a 2TB SATA SSD.

Admittedly I haven't tried this since I replaced the HDD on my 2012 iMac to an SSD.

Is everything the same? I read through some of the discussions in another thread but they didn't talk about the 5K iMac. Any tips or pointers?

If you have tried fixing a late 2012 iMac then the 5k iMac shouldn't be much different. At least that is what it seems like from iFixit's webpage. I haven't done that operation on a 5k iMac myself. Just make sure that the FusionDrive is unfused.
