I just ordered the Samsung 850EVO 500GB, the OWC thermal cable, and the mounting bracket. So I am pretty set on replacing the single 1TB HDD in my 2011 27" with the SSD. I have no desire in swapping out the Superdrive as I still use it quite a bit for ripping movies, doing sound recordings, etc.

Anyway, I have seen some posts in regard to the 21.5" where it is actually possible to install 2SSD into the HDD location using a double SSD mounting bracket and still keeping the SuperDrive. Is this in fact possible? If so and more importantly, is it possible in the 27" as well?

BTW, if anyone is looking for a great SSD price, Amazon dropped the Samsung 850EVO 500GB to $147. It was 175 just a day ago. I couldn't pass up that price, as am debating on getting two of them.

I've got a 512GB SSD, Superdrive and 2TB HDD in my 2011 27" iMac! The SSD was added as soon as I bought it, and the HDD upgraded from 1TB to 2TB a year or so after.

There's plenty of space to locate the SSD behind the Superdrive leaving the HDD where it is. It's a pretty straight forward job, although does involve lots of screws in order to get to the unused SATA port on the motherboard. The iFixit guide is really good, and just remember which screws go back where.
