I searched around, so I'm sorry if this has already been addressed in another post.

I would like to upgrade the HD in my iMac G5. So, I had it open today examining, and the connections look different than the HDs I'd seen before (though admittedly I hadn't looked at one in over a year...). What kind of drive is this exactly? Any suggestions on quality drives at good prices?

The iMac is a Rev A 17"

Thanks!

The iMac G5 (and the PowerMac G5) use Serial ATA (SATA) drives. They are indeed different from the Parallel ATA (EIDE) drives in G4's and eMacs.

I like Seagate Barracuda drives.

Whatever brand, make sure you get the full 3 or 5 year manufacturer's warranty in writing when you buy it. You don't want to save $10 and find out the drive is a 'pull' or an OEM drive with 0 - 1 year warranty.
