Hi there, I've recently signed up to seek advice with my upgrading my iPhone and I have a few questions that I hope can be answered.

As the title says I have iPhone 2G with version 2.2.1 which is jailborken and unlocked. However it's about time I get at least version 3!

Firstly which 3.x.x upgrade would be best to go for and how would I go about this?

Also, I'm planning on formatting my computer today aswell so would you advise upgrading my iPhone before this and then setting up itunes again after my format or 'starting a fresh' alogether after my format? Or would this cause any problems?

Ideally I'd like to keep all my apps/info on my iphone and upgrade without removing them but I'd like to hear any of your thoughts on what would be best.

Thanks

Because you have a 2G phone, you can safely upgrade to any version of the firmware. You might as well upgrade to 3.1.3 and jailbreak and unlock with redsn0w. I suggest using the latest iClarified tutorial.

Since you are doing a full version upgrade it is strongly recommended that you set up as a new phone instead of restoring from backup. You will lose your application data and SMS, but you will avoid significant problems that can sometimes arise when using an old backup. You could always try it from backup first and restore again if you have a problem.

I also have an iphone 2g, and am looking into upgrading... But I also need it to be unlocked again, should i still go with redsn0w, or should I look into blackra1n?
