Upgrading Mac Mini

Hello all... I am new to the forum, so please be patient. I am considering purchasing a refurbished Mini. I want to perform a SSD upgrade, as well as upgrade the RAM. Any suggestions/warnings?. I have a MacBook Air, and I will never own a Windows computer again; however, Apple is very expensive. Want to transition to a Mac desktop, but can't afford a Mini formatted the way I want it. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
