Evening,

I am probably going to upgrade the HDD on my Core Duo Macbook Pro soon. It currently has a 80GB Seagate 5400RPM HDD, and I have been looking at the Western Digital Scorpio 250GB 5400RPM HDD.

Seagete Model: ST98823AS

Western Digital Model: WD2500BEVS

Is this a good replacement? I read that this WD drive is supposed to be high-performance (for 5400RPM), low power consumption, and quiet. I want to get the best drive for the money. I am willing to give up some space to get a 7200RPM drive, but I am worried about battery consumption...

Any advice would be very helpful!

i just got the wd 250gig for my macbook and installed it 2 days ago. so far i am really pleased, it's silent faster (ran both xbench and geekbench before and after swap and only xbench tests the hd.....needless to say i got a 20pt increase in the overall score with this hd)

i recommend it

Thanks for the reply-

Is 250 GB would fit enough onto MBP 15.4" ?

Yeah, it should fit like a champ. Same size, and according to the websites and this previous reply, its quieter and better performing!

From your signature it looks like we have the same laptop model...I have mine boot-camped, and have simply run out of space. 80GB is just not enough space. I think I will solve that problem for quite some time by upgrading to 250GB of space. :D

It is a pain to open it and put it back together
i bent the drive my first time because the top case (keyboard, trackpad, etc.) would not go in place over by the drive., i did it again on a new MBP, i was careful and the top case did the same thing, but this time i did not bend the drive, so i took it to an apple store and they popped it back in. now its great.

So Be Careful.

btw i got the WD 250GB 5400 RPM, Love it! :) :apple:
