I'm planning to upgrade my MacPro 5.1, with Sierra (10.12.6), so it will be much faster for video editing in Premiere and After Effects. Right now I have 2 x 2,4GHz Quad Core, ATI Radeon 5770, and only 6GB RAM (1066MHz DDR3)

I've got some useful tips in this forum to change the CPU to 2 x X5690 (3.46GHz Six Core) and put in at least 32GB RAM (PC3-10600R ECC 1333MHz DDR3). Last decision is the graphic card. Maybe someone here knows which way to go. Either go with a AMD Radeon RX580 or NVIDIA GTX 1080. Or maybe it's good enough to go with an older version of AMD, like the Radeon R9 280X. What do you think?

I have a 980ti in mine and it works great. If I were doing the upgrade today I would chose the 1080ti hands down.

Personally, I went with dual 3.33 hex core 5680. They are much cheaper and the difference is nominal.

But a new 1080ti is over ten times higher price than the old AMD R9 280. Is it really worth it?
