Is there a way, if you want to re-rip your music at a higher quality, you can have it overwrite what was there and keep the play count. Kinda like what is happening with the DRM Upgrades.
 
Yes, as long as the track info is the same, iTunes will offer to replace the existing copy and retain all the playcounts, etc. :)
