I am getting ready to upgrade video card on my Mac Pro Desktop.

2007 Dual Core 2x2.66 GHz Memory 12 GB MAC OS X Ver 10.6.8
Current Video card is: 2 Video cards NVidia GEForce 7300 GT
I was told to either upgrade to (2) video cards: NVidia 8800 GT X2
Or (1) video card ATI Radeon X1900 XT
What would your recommend?
I mostly use PS5, LR4, Final Cut Pro 10
The 7300 card does not let me get updates to Final Cut Pro 10

I upgraded from a 7300 to Apple ATI 4870 and use dual display with that. It works in 1,1 and 2,1 Mac Pros and more than twice as fast as the 8800GT

X1900 is obsolete now like the 7300GT

:D :apple:

Ati 4870

Thank you for your suggestion. As you probably notice, not too computer savy. That helps so much. I did not think the ATI 1900 was the way to go, just because it was old. Do I need to flash the Apple ATI 4870? Or is just plug & play?

Check my FAQ thread as well.

You could try a modern NVIDIA card, like a GTX 560. This should work out-of-the-box on your system. I'd keep the original 7300 GT card in case you ever need a boot screen, just as a backup.

Edit: Oh wait, you're on 10.6.8, the NVIDIA cards would require 10.7.5 to work.
