Upgrading RAM mid 2012 MacBook Pro

It's a long weekend and just installed 8 Mb module in top slot, leaving 2 Mb module in bottom slot. Computer not reading top slot. Applecare agent says max capacity is 8Mb. In addition, tried to remove newly installed module, and it won't release. Can someone help me out, please and thank you!

In addition to that, he's using the wrong units. Unless I've misunderstood entirely, I thought we were well past the days when RAM came in MBs.
