Hello, I want to upgrade the internal hard drive on my 2.4 IMac and I'm looking for a suggestion on the hard drive.

Two requirements, fast and quiet.

I was looking to go with the Seagate 1.5TB but it looks like it has random lock up issues (from what I've read). Any other suggestions on hard drives people have actually tried? If none are up to par I could go with a 1tb but I'd still like a proven suggestion.

Thanks so much

Josh

Wouldn't it be great if it wasn't such a smart-a$$ answer?

I did read most of those reviews and I didn't see anything specifically related to good reviews of quiet, fast hard drives. Hence the question for specific results related to a reliable, fast, quiet hard drive...

Amazing that someone would want updated information based on hard drives as of 3/2/2009 and not last year.

That sentence I omitted? Delete it.

Don't get the 1.5TB. Anything else is quiet enough. Seriously. Get any single terabyte from Western Digital.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice... Is the recommendation to stay away from the 1.5tb because of issues or because of the noise?

I'm considering this same upgrade and also would like to know what other members may have used for the 1.5tb upgrade. I know that there must be someone out there that has done this successfully. Let me know what info you have.

I would recommend the Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB personally..

Fast, quiet, good price, and 5 year warranty...

What are you back-up options? Do you have a Time Capsule or other backup software or hardware?

Installing such a large hard drive could bring heartbreak if it were to fail. You should buy 2 drives, not exact ones or relatively the same manufactured time. Use it as a Time Machine back up to protect your important data.

That's a good price. Cheaper than Newegg.com price.

Thanks.. I had planned to buy 2 and use one for Time Machine. I appreciate the suggestion though as well.

Are the new iMacs not even harder to get into than the original Intel iMacs?

The G5 was, as you all know, a doddle to get into the components but the move to Intel seen Apple make the things bullet proof in comparison.

I'd be interested to know how easily you swapped out the Hard Drive once you complete the upgrade.
