Upgrading the HDD and adding an SSD

I return to a dilemma that I posted 6+ months ago for improving my 2011 mini.

I bought a 250gb 840 Evo for it but put that in my laptop after reading on this forum that it was not the SSD to use with an HDD as it was in itself a quasi fusion drive and that the 840 Pro was the SSD of choice. But now we have the 850 out so is that a better choice and if so, why?

Onto the HDD. which has huge capacity at a slower speed.

I back up to a 3tb WD MyCloud external hard drive. RAM is 8gb of Crucial. Main uses photo and video editing, web browsing and music storage (320gb).

Constructive comments would be much appreciated.

I have no idea why anybody would tell you that about the Evo? It is just a standard SSD and in no way like a Fusion drive. The Samsung Pro line is a little faster and uses NAND chips that have a longer lifespan if you do a LOT of heavy disk write activity on your computer, and I see no reason for you to replace the Evo with a Pro model if the Evo is currently working okay.

On the hard drive, just get whatever size you need for the best price.
