I'm getting the new Mac mini base model 2012

I guess to 16gb

Can somebody post a link to the actual ram that I need to buy
Is there a specific one that I need to get
Brand/model

Why only 8gb ?
I am not sure what your usage habits are, but I do a lot of video editing with motion graphics on my PC rig. Only rarely have I actually had Windows/Adobe tell me that I was running low on RAM due to intense usage (scrubbing and quick rendering, I would regain more free RAM if i just waited a few seconds).

If I am just doing normal things like games, heavy-web browsing (40+ chrome tabs), music, multiple (non-editing) programs open. I never even get close to blowing the 8GB cap.

I have yet to see anyone who isn't a video editor/graphics person max out 8GB of RAM on normal usage.
Most people usually opt for 16GB, just because 'they can', but for the average user, it's a waste. The placebo effect of 'having' that 16GB, when their usage habits don't ever get to that level is quite common nowadays. I'd use the extra $40 you get from saving the RAM and putting it towards an SSD.

And since this is the Mac mini forum, I am assuming this mac mini isn't going to be for heavy video editing.

Now unless you're going the server option, then yeah, you'll probably want the RAM, but not sure why you'd choose dual-core then.

16GB at a nice price (it's been on sale for $60 once or twice in the past).

At these prices, why not?
(Seriously, though, there are lots of reasons - VMs, photo/video editing, routinely having 100s of tabs open in Chrome or Safari....)
The RAM you linked is DDR3 1333 :\ Why go down when the base is already at 1600.

Alright, i guess you're right, RAM is incredibly cheap. But i'd use the extra $$ and put it towards an SSD. You'd see a huge increase in speed with that.

Sorry about linking the slower speed RAM (didn't realize it). Probably won't be a noticeable speed difference, though.

No question that an SSD is money put to better use. Couldn't agree more. But I don't view it as an either/or type of question. There is room for both if you can afford it. And, obviously, it's best to just buy it yourself and not let Apple gouge you on the price.

But, yes, if I had to choose I'd get an SSD over a RAM upgrade.
