My son currently uses a 6th Gen iPad for games like Fortnite/Roblox/Minecraft, however it’s been struggling keeping up and often crashes... I’m thinking about upgrading to the new iPad with the A12, or the iPad Air with the A14.
Coming from an A10, will the iPad’s A12 run his games equally as well as the iPad Air’s A14?

Run equally well? Obviously, the A14 has major improvements Over its older brother. but if cost is a factor here, you won’t be disappointed by the iPad. I’ve got an 8th gen with the A12 and also frequent Minecraft on my friend’s Bedrock server. It runs flawlessly with no frame drop issues. This device is beautiful and smooth in any of the tasks I use it for.

That being said, the iPad Air has a better screen, better accessories, and support for Apple Pencil 2 if you’d care about that. And again, the A14 is definitely a better chip. If price isn’t a major factor, I’d go Air.

Definitely get the iPad Air if you can snag a good deal.

Flynnstone, the ipad 8 would be perfect for your son if he is only 4. The A12 chip is smooth like butter and will play any games with no problems. The ipad 8 is also a bit more durable for kids to use, and with its non laminated screen will be cheaper to repair if cracked. The Air 4 would be complete overkill for a 4 year old in my opinion.
