I already grabbed the 1TB model

But you should read this below in regards to RAM.

Actually I’m doing research on comparing the models with 4GB of ram vs 6GB of ram. And there is no extra RAM being utilized for extra storage.

All iPads have 7.5% of there memory utilized, and this 7.5% is not allowed for the iOS to see. Believe it or not, the 4GB models have around 8% utilized, and the 1TB models have 7% utilized.

The 1TB model always has 48% more USEABLE memory than the lower storage models. I’m testing several applications, keeping both devices exactly the same. And I am running various applications across both devices, and checking available memory. Then I am loading the internal storage, and repeating the process. It is very time consuming but pretty accurate.

I’m still working on this right now. But, all of the extra memory for the 1TB model is available to be used!

So, as I am testing both devices side by side for about 5 days now. It is amazing that all of the prior information online about the 1TB model is well, false!

I dunno where this rumor started, but it has spread like a wild fire lol.

Hope that helps.
It was highly overblown by people wanting to justify not getting the 1TB model, but it still is necessary as Rui no onna stated...
It likely won't have much impact during typical usage but more storage does require more RAM on occasion and some corner cases. It's more of a "how SSDs work". Sure, you can skip the RAM but there's performance impact with doing that (e.g. BX500 vs MX500). That said, I'm curious what those corner cases might be on the iPad. I don't think there's a benchmark available on the iPad that will do continuous/multi-GB random 4K write tests. Curious, can you check available memory with, hmm, say storage 90-95% full while installing some large apps? Or maybe a 4K video export (granted, 4K export is probably more sequential which is less stressful on storage and perhaps CPU-bound as well compared to app install)?

I would buy the 1TB model IF I could sell my current one for about 950-1000, but then again... I already use it for video and photo editing (large, large files, and it has no problem I can see.) Obviously more RAM is always good.

Lol, I skipped last year because it was 1TB or bust. Although to be honest, my 256GB Pro 9.7 still serves my needs quite well performance-wise. I would just appreciate the convenience of having extra storage space—less content management required.

I bought my 1TB 11” Cellular model brand new for $1329 shipped on eBay. And I sold my 11” 64gb cellular model used for $735 on eBay afterwards to recoup some money.

I plan to keep it for at least a year or two from now. I’m loading that internal storage to death! It is nice having 1TB of storage, but 256GB and 512GB models are plenty sufficient too.

My last 64GB model was just not nearly enough storage space for me. I felt the squeeze of being limited to how many photos and apps and videos I can have installed and saved on the device. I got tired of managing storage space.

It is nice not to worry about managing space. I hated my last 64gb model for that. I would use my iPad to record videos sometimes in 4K 60FPS. And, I’d always have to delete the videos frequently, or pictures, and apps. Id go back searching “Did I delete that one too?” I don’t even bother with that now. It’s nice.

Still though, I imagine 256gb is much better than my previous situation with only 64gb.

Last time I owned a 64GB iPad was the iPad 3 and 6 months before I replaced it, I already had to constantly delete stuff simply so it can update apps. That's without any videos nor photos on the thing (well, maybe ~200MB worth of screenshots?).

Lol, the 256GB wouldn't have been enough by itself either. Only reason it suffices is because I moved comiXology duties to a 512GB iPP 12.9 (2017). I was down to 5GB free on the iPP 9.7 before getting the 12.9. :p

No space for videos on the iPP 9.7, though, hence why I want a storage upgrade. When I go on long overseas trips (poor internet access), I still bring my laptop+4TB portable HDD configured as Plex server.

Your using ATT on your iPad 12.9”? I just switched my data plan to att prepaid on my current iPads ESIM last week. Do they ever limit or throttle your bandwidth? They say, “may throttle after 22GB” I’m just over 30GB and it has not slowed down at all. Incredible for $30 dollars a month. I’m expecting serious throttling anytime now, but no slowdowns so far.

I'm still on a grandfathered Mobile Share plan which is sufficient for our needs (paying just $10/mo line fee for the iPad). I remember doing the math and switching to unlimited would cost me an extra $80-100/mo. Alas, towers are pretty congested in my area. I'm already getting 5Mbps down without any throttling so I'm guessing that 22GB will likely be a hard limit where I'm located.

I have the iPad 11” 64GB Cellular version, and im not to fond of using cloud storage. I think direct access storage is the way to go personally.. Im using Adobe rush a lot and I’m having to delete a lot of my videos, after I put a clip together to save on storage space. I thought I’d be ok, but I’m sitting here imagining what it would actually be like with 1TB of direct access storage space on a iPad, and I’d never have to delete apps, or videos, photos never ever ever lol!

Plus 6GB of DDR4, that is 50% more memory that my current model.. so instead of have roughly 2.9GB of ddr4 available with only the bare iOS running at startup with nothing else running, I’d have 4.9GB of DDR4 available.

Long story short, I’m considering selling mine and buying a 1TB 11” iPad Pro. I’d consider the 512GB too, if I found a good enough deal.

I’ve found one for $1,200. I’d have to add a decent amount of cash on top, but I’m just picturing 1TB of storage and what I could actually do with that for years to come!

Any thoughts? Who has the 1TB model? Apple really built it as the ultimate iPad beast lol.
So, I’m just curious... has the 1TB model been a big improvement in performance and just in general for you? I was always tempted to get it for the extra RAM, but I didn’t have quite the amount of money at the time.
I could sell my current pro for about 950-1000 and then get the 12.9” 1TB for about $1700
Is the 4GB of RAM worth it?

I’m sure, you can find a better deal then that on eBay? Maybe $1,500 for a cellular model 12.9” for a new one, don’t buy a used 3rd gen iPad lol. I think it’s worth it, but only if you use your iPad Pro a lot. It is 1TB of storage, and a smoother experience when you really load it to death with a heavy application.

But sure I really think so, the biggest difference I noticed was when using certain applications that use a lot of ram. Adobe Rush for instance, editing 4K videos will stutter and struggle to play the timeline video preview previously on my last 11” model. While editing, after about 20 minutes of getting in to your groove and cutting several clips, and inserting audio the entire application starts to run really rough.

^ This has never happened on my 1TB model.

After experiencing that in Adobe with my 64GB cellular 11” model, and dealing with touch issues on top of that, this all made me go for a new 1TB model.
