I have 11GB of old photos on an old Mac I want to upload to iCloud.

1. I don't want them appearing as the newest photos on my devices.
2. The photos are from the Master folder from inside the old iPhotos library so they are all separated by date folders. Can I just select the root folder and iCloud will figure it out or will I need to put all of them in a single folder first?
3. Will they be sorted by meta date so old ones will be at the top, or will they all appear as recent photos and be at the end of the library?
Thanks

EDIT

Tried it out. Disaster. The functions work fine but all the photos regardless of meta data get uploaded as "recent" photos so if you upload 1000 photos from 2010, they all end up at the end of the camera roll app i.e. (the photos that will appear as the most recent). You'd think a proper photo app/iCloud would be able to place them in the cloud by meta data.

Your real problem can best be found by looking directly into a mirror. There you will see a person who have not bothered to read Apple's user guides for iCloud and for Apple Photos.

So start reading. When you eventually understand how iCloud and Apple Photos work you will be impressed. All photos are stored in one place only: The All Photos folder. All the sorting and all the many, many other things you can do are based upon meta data (like a music playlist) and by Apple Photos analyzing all the photos (for parts of motives), which is done locally.

But you see Steve...the real problem is that as I said the photos were previously put in a "master" folder. This was done years ago during a backup. No Photos app package. So the problem really is Apple cause the photos still have valid and standard meta data that iCloud is incapable of parsing because you know, engineering.

I mean the »recent«-album just shows you the files you added recently to your Photos library. As always. You can quickly see/it allows access to what was added last.
Do the photos do not show up in e.g. the album corresponding to the year they were taken?
If they include EXIF data, Apple Photos will show them there. Please check »Library—>Years—>Mont—>Days«.
