iPad Pro UPS guy left my new $1375 iPad Pro 13 from Costco on my driveway. Got home just in time before it started raining.

I ordered my iPad Pro 13 from Costco. Total prices was about $1375. Costco shipped it via UPS.

This afternoon, I was about an hour from home. I knew the iPad was being delivered today, but I wasn't too worried. My neighborhood is safe enough. My front porch is not visible from the street. There has not been any porch pirate reports in my subdivision for over 10 years.

Well.... when my Ring Camera app beeped, I watched as the UPS truck pull up to my driveway. What happened next confused me. The UPS guy got out of the truck and placed the iPad box on my driveway, about 2 feet from my garage door. I tried to use the Ring camera to yell at the driver but he was already backing out.

I got home about an hour later. The iPad was still on the driveway. The box was really hot. It was a 90-degree day. Half an hour later, thunderstorm rolled in and the rain was extremely heavy. If I got home any later, I would have picked up a soaking wet iPad Pro 13.

same here.... I didn't even sue the Alaska tour operator when I got injured when it was 100% their fault many years ago. (which resulted in a small tree branch being lodge in the right side of my neck... fortunately I survived... obviously)

Sign up on the UPS app. Then, after you put in your address, add delivery instructions. Mine say: ON PORCH.

It works!

Always buy any high dollar item direct no mail order or Amazon or Costco never depend on UPS or Fedx not even USPS, go to the store like Best Buy and get a new whatever and not an open box.

In the US today anything that can be broken into is a target for thieves.

Costco did not tell UPS the declared value of the item. UPS requires signatures for items over $500. I would be more upset with them than a driver.

And yes, UPS packages can be held at a UPS Store if you know you are not going to be home to sign for it.

Amazon has "Amazon Lockers" in many locations where product you order from them can be delivered and picked up.

Our apartment complex (which is massive) also has a very large Amazon Locker which handles most of our USPS, UPS and FedEx package deliveries.

The weather is a side issue really. Packages of that value shouldn't be left when the recipient isn't at home, except with their explicit consent. Clearly the OP wasn't happy with where the driver left the iPad otherwise he wouldn't have tried to use the doorbell to reach the driver, whether that be to tell him to move the package to a more sensible position or to take it to the depot as the forecast for the area was rain.

My house has a electric gate, all the drivers have to do is press the button by the side to make me aware and let them in...many of them don't seem to work that out and literally chuck parcels straight over the gate!

(I do try and leave it open to prevent this if I know a rough time they're expecting to deliver but they don't always tell you!)

You're assuming the UPS driver (1) knew the value of the package, or (2) the package was marked as requiring the recipient's signature.

The DIAD (Delivery Information Acquisition Device) tells the driver if a signature is required or not. If it doesn't prompt for a signature, they just leave the package.

Maybe beerseagulls can check the shippping label to see if it says "Signature Required" or not.

I've never had an issue with weird package placement from UPS or Fedex. Always on my large, covered front porch. An added bonus of concrete flower trenches along the outside, tall enough to cover any packages from being seen from the street. Though porch pirates aren't a problem in my neighborhood.

Just watched a DHL guy deliver an iPad case - he tossed it like a Frisbee at the porch, hitting the back of a lower step. He went and picked it up and tossed it up to the porch landing. It was in a retail box in a thin plastic bag. The box was popped open in the bag but the case is OK.

Could be worse. I live in an apartment block in London in the UK. Our local Amazon driver helpfully left my brand new MacBook Pro outside the entrance of the block, signed for it themselves and took a photo of it outside.

It was gone in the 5 minutes it took me to get back to get it.

This took nearly 2 weeks to sort out after Amazon accused me of stealing it myself and bouncing me around departments. Eventually after threatening chargebacks and reporting them to the police, they sent me another one out which was also left outside, despite me actually being in and the block entry phone system working. Fortunately I got that one.

I closed my Amazon account after that.

I have an old 3rd gen 12.9 ipad pro mounted above my spa outside. One day it fell in the spa while it was on (completely submerged in 104 degree water). Still works just fine, I think you would be ok from rain inside a plastic-sealed box inside a shipping box.
