Why must UPS suck so badly? Original email from Apple stated 12/30 delivery of stock nMP. Tracking my delivery, it took 4 days to go from Austin TX to Mesquite TX (a 3.5 hour drive). This weekend the UPS system goes down and changes my delivery to 1/6 (two weeks to deliver?) and also shows my delivery as two packages (wtf?).

I get the below email from Apple yesterday (throwing UPS under the bus) - despite the fact that my package is at my local distribution facility - a few miles away. I called UPS, they are holding it there because their records show it is scheduled by the sender for a 1/2/13 delivery. No, it's not - your system changed it from 12/30 to 1/6 (I offered to forward them my original email showing the 12/30 delivery date). They won't let me pick it up at the facility either. Great customer service UPS. Will avoid using them at all costs in the future. DBs...

I can definitely sympathize and the frustration about having to wait.

Is there any options of you picking it up and not waiting for delivery?

I wish I had a dime for everytime I've said I hate big brown! Their customer service is absolutely TERRIBLE. And it's very ironic that it's a computer glitch that has your nMP held up!

For the record, though, sometimes it seems like a four day drive from Austin to Mesquite! :p

the thing that sucks about this is that there is nothing you can do about it, just sit back and hopelessly watch waiting for a change.

Called UPS this AM they were unreasonable. Played it by the book. Told me sender had not authorized earlier delivery. Tried to explain it was originally scheduled to deliver yesterday.

1st world problems, I know - doesn't excuse UPS from fumbling badly this past month on a lot of levels.

My favorite part is that, this past Saturday, Apple called them on my behalf to find out why it was now showing up as two packages with a delivery two weeks from ship date. They basically said, the system went down and everything is screwed up. Wait two days until Monday and the correct information will appear... WOW - really?

My nMP is still showing as two packages (originally listed as one). No, I didn't order anything else with it.

Last time a UPS order split into two packages on me... The shipment was damaged to the point where they had to repackage it into two packages. We refused that shipment.

Did you order applecare? That would mean two packages but then you'd see that on the apple site as well.

If you live "out in the country" in an area like Upstate NY off of a "seasonal" road like i do, you'd also have the joy of frequent Winter UPS refusals to deliver due to "weather emergency." I once had the manager on the phone, inviting him to come out and see for himself that my access road was clean, clear, dry and ice-free but he refused. The driver has full say, even if he/she is lying about the road conditions to shorten their run.

In such cases I end up driving to their depot, over the roads they say are "impassible" in my Prius of all things, to pick up my stuff. Happens every year.

FedEx, on the other hand, has never had a problem getting to my place.

I'm not the on,y one here that received the Apple letter pointing fingers at UPS

.

I can definitely empathize. I RMA'd some Crucial RAM and received an email from Crucial on Dec. 12th saying the RAM has shipped. Clicked on the tracking number and UPS' website said a label has been created. Guess what? UPS' website still lists my delivery as "a label has been created". If it takes three weeks for label creation, I wonder how long delivery will actually take...

I went through a similar experience. I was also emailed by UPS that I had two packages. They were marketed 'Leave at Door ... No signature required!' Tracking informed me delivery was on Friday, 27th.

My Mac Pro eventually made it to Sarasota on Friday the 27th a day late, after several days to go a day's drive. My tracking info now stated deliver January 6th!

I phoned UPS requesting that I pick it up on Saturday morning given it was there ten miles from me. I was told by a lady, I suspect India, that Apple expressly forbade this. So I called Apple who said that was BS and also it was sent requiring a signature unless I chose to change that.

I spoke to a senior UPS manager in Las Vegas who messaged Sarasota's office as they didn't answer my calls, with a message marked 'URGENT', to phone me to allow me to pick it up immediately. They never called me and they all went home at lunchtime, not to return to work till Monday.

Instead of delivering it Monday, they took it off the truck ... as now they had gotten round to reading the request intended for Saturday morning! So I drove there to collect it. Thinking it was all over, I then found they couldn't find it. Some considerable time later they eventually found the Mac that someone had 'incorrectly stored in the wrong place'. There was of course, only one box.

As an aside, when Apple shipped the Mac they also shipped the 27" LCD TB monitor except they used Fedex for that for some reason. The monitor arrived a day earlier and our regular, and very nice, FedEx driver insisted on carrying it in to the house for us with a big smile on his face and lots of happy seasonal wishes. We feel like he is family now as he alway brings the Amazon Prime boxes so is here almost daily!

I couldn't resist, I commenting to the UPS woman that FedEx had managed to deliver on time, I didn't even mention ... 'Early'. To her credit another lady who had found the lost box joked, "hey, don't rub salt in the wound". However, the over weight and grumpy woman I had been dealing with looked at her ancient PC running XP and IE plus Outlook and said defiantly "It was shipped on the 27th, we did very well. " I knew that was the date it arrived in Sarasota not when it shipped! I chose not to debate her as could imagine my two forms of ID suddenly becoming insufficient if I did. I did wonder as I left the horrible office what kind of malware and viruses they must have though!

I was really struck by the UPS office. It was like being in the 1960's in the dirty, worn out and dingy office. The grumpy and officious woman that 'helped me' made our local Post office look very good.

From now on I have to find a way to stay with FedEx!

I will also post this on AI.

I soooo agree. UPS SUCKS... apple was so much better when they used fedex. I have a package I'm waiting for now from UPS and it's just sitting there 7miles away and they won't let me come pick it up I have to wait till Thursday for delivery. AND D@@M UPS don't get to my address till well after 4:00 pm EVERYTIME. So I'll just sit here and wait for my pegasus 2 for few more days. DAMN UPS. THEY SUCK.

Wow.... Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. On top of all the BS UPS has put me through, it looks like we'll be in the midst of a major snow storm around delivery time tomorrow. Anyone want to bet they bail?

Despite 7 inched of snow so far...

....UPS managed to finally get it here.

UPS sucks.

Fed Ex sucks.

USPS sucks.

DHL sucks.

Lasership sucks.

They all suck sometime. The question is what percentage of the time do they get it right...what percentage of the time do they get it wrong.

I get many packages using all the shipping services...and a very small percentage of the time they screw up. It's annoying, but a blanket condemnation seems a bit over the top.
