a friend returned their iPhone XS to Apple and they have tracked the ups delivery and it should have been delivered today however it hasn’t been delivered, so it looks like it may be lost, what will Apple do if ups have lost the return?

If you return something to Apple, the shipping label they send you is usually insured. Your friend should be OK, but they really need to talk to Apple, if the phone is indeed lost.

If they’re tracking it, where is it and how do “they” already know it’s lost?

Today was the delivery day and it has not shown up and you are already saying it is lost?

I don’t know, they just wanted to find out what Apple would do if a return was lost in transit

How about you wait until it's actually suppose to be delivered.

My friend has waited, today is the delivery day and now UPS are closed so it’s not getting delivered today when they was promised it would be

It is not like “your friend” is waiting on a phone to arrive, he is sending it back to Apple. WTF does it matter if it takes an extra day or two. If Apple is paying for the shipping they will bear the responsibility. If “your friend” paid to have it shipped, hope he insured it. Your “friend” seems very anxious here, is he trying to pull one on Apple?

Sometimes UPS forgets to scan deliveries. I've seen it happen.

I've got one better though... I live less than 30 miles from the return location where the Apple delivery is. It took Fed Ex 5 DAYS to get my phone to Apple one time. Yes, 5 DAYS. lol. Bloomington, CA.

I wouldn't worry bout it, as long as you have a receipt.

Sounds like following up with UPS would be the first and main path, and then perhaps following up with Apple if something can't be figured out with UPS for some reason.

There are times when deliveries are delayed for some reason or another, just as there are times when it's simply the scans/updates that don't happen in a timely manner. Usually something in the range of a day or two isn't unheard of, even if it's not something that's common--but following up with UPS is the best course of action initially.

I had one apple product I returned to Apple, since it was purchased online order for in-store pick up, I opted the return via mailing it. I was provided the Fedex shipping label. Of all the returns I made in the past, it was always Fedex. Never UPS for me.

Anyways, I used Deliveries App and indicated by the app and fedex sit that Apple Warehouse did receive it as it was signed by one of the employee. Typically from my past experience they always processed my returns on the day they receive it. But this one had no update for 2 days, I chatted with apple, was told to wait a few more days, then chatted again and open up a investigation and couple days later I get an e-mail from the refund team that they will process the refund and I should expect my money back. Of course I got my money back.

With that being said, though the tracking stated that it would be delivered by 4:30 pm, Fedex always delivers them in the morning. Warehouse typically process returns late in the afternoons. Anyways, I've had one return that got processed at 10 PM at night. So try to be patient and see what happens.

As long as you have sent it, and have proof it was sent, you, or your friend, have nothing to worry about.

Most companies have a well set delivery window. UPS won't be delivering packages to Apple in the afternoon or evening. It'll be there today. I'm sure "your friend" got a receipt from UPS when "they" dropped it off, right?

Just check with UPS tracking to see if it was delivered or not. How simple is that? I get online check to tracking and it will show if it was delivered or not and who accepted it.

That's one good measure too. Always ask for a receipt. I always ask a receipt with tracking whenever I drop off a package with either Fedex or UPS.

OP, has your friend checked tracking page lately for any update? Sometimes these carriers scan may not up updated right away. So it's possible that there could be a delay in the system. I've had one instance where the scheduled delivery was Tuesday but it was at the local facility scan and wasn't set to be delivered and put a scan for it to be delivered the next day. However it turns out when I received a refund e-mail from Apple, it appears that the tracking was inaccurate and was actually delivered on Monday instead.
