Uptime

I switched to Macs about 3 months ago now and I'm still amazed at this iMac. I was starting to get bored of computers (which isn't helpful when you're studing computer science...haha) but the new Mac has rejuvinated me!

My biggest suprise is that I now have 10 days uptime and it's running just as quick as it did when I first turned it on. My windows laptop grinds to a halt after just two or 3 'standbys-wake ups'.

Well, that was a random and totally pointless post, but thought I'd share my continuing pleasure to fellow Mac users. Rock on.

Cool man! Just remeber that OS X has a stable UNIX core so there's no need to worry about anything! Yes, I agree that Mac's are the most awesome things ever.

The only problem I have is with my iMac's wireless connection speed but the rest is uncomplainable!

I'd have awesome uptimes if it wasn't for dual booting and OS X updates. My work machine usually gets 40 days. I know a few people with Power Mac G5's already over 150 days.

My iBook's record is 31 days running 10.4.something like 3 or 4.

When I was in Canada and out in the middle of nowhere without fast internet my uptime record was about 25 days running 10.3.5 or 6. With 256MB of RAM.

Neither of these times did I shut down because something froze on me, the Panther record came to an end when I updated to 10.3.8 and the Tiger record ended on a security update I'd held off installing until I'd cracked the one month uptime.

I've heard people with linux servers with uptimes in the hundreds of days to a few years, even heard someone say they had an old iMac G3 running Jaguar that hasn't been turned off since it's last update - and that was years ago. It's just an iTunes jukebox now but still cranking.

My 17" iMac is currently at 148 days... okay so it's probably still on 10.4.5 or whatever but that machine is only used for EyeTV stuff anyway (oops should probably do a backup at some point! )

Record: 135 days

Wow, there are some monsterous uptimes here! 150 days is immense.

I have dodgy electrics in my house and sometimes when you plug something in or switch something on, the power trips out. Hopefully the power wont trip out for another 140 days....haha

Really am loving the machine. Now, just how to get myself a MacBook Pro....
