UREGNT HELP WITH SUDO COMMAND PLEASE

Okay, long story short, I got iTunes error 3194 and I'm attempting to fix it through Terminal, editing the hosts file in /private/etc. When opening the file in Terminal, there are a few lines of code missing from the display, which are shown in the Apple Support Forums/Communities. The lines in question are:

fe80::1%lo0 local host
# 17.151.36.30 gs.apple.com
​

I was tempted to add them myself, but being not that good with code I didn't want to take any risks. Is it okay to add these lines, or is there something more sensible I can do to fix this?

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 on the 13" MacBook Pro 2012 model.

If there is another way to work around error 3194, PLEASE let me know!

Looking at the way you asked the question I think you need to read up on what this means before attempting this. The hosts file isn't code, it's a table. Any line starting with # is just a comment and does nothing. The line above is a standard localhost (note, no space) ipv6 definition that should have already been there. I do not recommend that you go down this path without some more knowledge. Sorry.

You do not need the gs.apple.com line, as the Apple instructions state. Do not edit any lines that include localhost.
