Hi, I'm very new to the world of Ipods (blush blush) and I am having trouble with my Ipod Nano that my dad gave to me as a gift about a year ago.

My ipod used to work perfectly fine, but recently my ipod has been switching off every time I connect it to my Apple Laptop to update my playlists etc. The first time it happened all my songs got deleted off my Ipod and now every time I try to put all my data back onto my Ipod (using Itunes), my Ipod switches off and on constently. When it switches off it shows a blank page, on my ipod, with the apple logo. When I press the centre button I have to start at the very beginning where you are supposed to select a language (there will be absolutely nothing on the ipod). I tried to restore my ipod instead of resynching it, but half way through the procedure my Ipod switches off and I get a pop up from Itunes saying that an unknown error has occured (1408).

Does anyone know what is wrong with my ipod? Is there anything I can try to fix the problem or should I send it in to an Apple store to be looked at?

I will really appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Sounds like an issue with the iPod software. Have you tried resetting the iPod by toggling hold and pressing the menu and select buttons simultaneously for about 5-10 seconds? If you can't get the iPod to stay on through a full restore, try putting it manually into disk mode (same as resetting but pressing and holding down the select and play/pause buttons @ the :apple: logo) then attempting a restore. If that doesn't pan out it does indicate that you'll want to have it examined by an iPod authorized service provider. If its still within the 1 year warranty they'll determine what appropriate action to take and whether you may or may not be eligible for a replacement.
