Hi,

My son just spill water into the ipad. After drying i noticed that the turn on and off by itself sometimes.

Friend ask me try restoring, but itune always say firmware error.
Ipad also running on 3.2.
Itune 9.2.1.5
My shsh is save using cydia and umbrella.

Steps for restoring.

From umbrella enter ECID no. (found no using a software)
device: ipad 3.2 (7b367)
Request from cydia
Put ipad to recovery mode
Start tss server
Hold shift key and click restore
select file shsh3.2.1
error message will appear saying firware is different from itune

Could it be the new itune version not allowing me to restore?
Do i have to use the default PC to restore?

Thank in advance.

When you took the iPad out of the water, what did you do? The correct steps are below...

1. DON'T TURN IT ON. This will send electricity through the phone and short circuit the phone. In other words, you'll have a large, expensive paperweight.

2. Allow me to clarify: DON'T TURN IT ON

3. Put it into uncooked rice and leave it there for 3 days at LEAST. You can leave it in longer to assure it's completely dry. The rice will absorb the water.

4. If you're lucky, your iPad will turn back on after the above steps are done.

Does it turn on? If so, restore from iPad. Then when prompted connect to PC to resynch. (only do that if you have recently backed up)

I use vacuum to suck out water.
And left it under sun.
It was working all the while.
Just that sometimes on and off by itself.

I try restoring using umbrella but can't work.
Later I try restore from iPad itself.

You should have turned it off and left it off until it was completely dry. It sounds like you kept your iPad on while drying, if so, hardware may have been damaged.

As for restoring to previous firmware versions, you should ask in the hacks subforum. Perhaps you should try looking in the iPhone hacks subforum for instructions, the process is basically the same for the iPhone as for the iPad.

Probably ruined, vie seen ipads get water in them near the volume rocker and the volume up/down control goes up and down by itself.

Dry it out as others have recommended and try to return it under warranty. Of course if you've jail broke it your screwed because you won't be able tom get back to the stock Apple firmware and Apple won't honor the warranty.

If the water damage sensors have tripped,Apple will declare the warranty void, regardless of jailbreak. Apple warranty doesn't cover accidental damage.

What's the word I'm looking for.....? Ah yes. Dumb.....

Didn't you read the posts above from people that seem to know much more about this than you. Do not turn it on as it energizes the circuits. Second, the bowl of uncooked rice is what all mobile phone and device forums recommend. Third, you can save and restore all you want, Apple will see from the moister sensors that your iPad has been doused with water. Warranty voided. Prepare to pay to have it fixed.

Look closely in the earphone and dock connector. If you can see ANY red, then your warranty is void.

However, if you can't then take it into an apple store and they'll replace it under warranty.

step 1, as some others have said: DON'T TURN IT ON and don't bother trying a restore at this stage - it may take several days to fully dry out and you risk further damage by turning it on.

water damage is unlikely to be solved by a firmware restore - water affects the hardware!

the store-in-dry-rice trick does work to absorb moisture, but you must be patient. In the best case, after fully drying out it might just work again. or perhaps Apple will be kind and replace it. in the worst case you may have damaged some electronics and need repair/replacement.

I've had a cellphone go through a complete laundry machine cycle which appeared completely dead at first, but after disassembling and waiting 4 or 5 days to completely dry out it worked normally again.

to help it dry out more thoroughly, you could try to disassemble your iPad - go over to ifixit.com and take a look at one of the step-by-step disassembly guides e.g.
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iPad-Wi-Fi-Logic-Board/2200/1

opening up the case will greatly increase the chance of drying out completely. did I mention you must be patient?

of course you may likely void your warranty by doing so, but if you have water damage you've probably already done that, as there are water damage indicators inside the case.

another tip, if you go over to ifixit.com and browse the Answers area (or post your problem there), there are LOTS of very helpful and knowledgeable people there who might be able to help you fix your iPad, especially if it comes down to repairing or replacing some component yourself.

good luck. and be patient drying it out!

THIS is the way this forum should work, SECOND post ,perfect advice;)

wont work, Apple has sensors to show water damage, or the one time presence of:cool:

This is the BEST advice. Turning it on before completely dry will kill it.
