Hello

It's my first post and am here with really great hopes :)

I am in serious trouble - Recently purchased a new iPhone 4 16gb Factory unlocked which came by default with 4.0.2!
I jailbreaked it using Limera1n

Today after the release of unteathered jailbreak I decided to upgrade to 4.3.1 and jailbreak it.

But the first step itself doesn't work for me i.e. I have downloaded a IPSW(iPhone3_1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore) from apple's server and when I try to restore it to iOS 4.3.1 using iTunes(by pressing shift and restore and browsing to the file) it stucks at "Restoring iphone software" as shown in following image -

I have already tried following methods but no luck -

1) Changing computer!
2) Re-installing itunes 10.2.1 and also have tried to uninstall apple mobile device support and reinstall it.

These were the two most prominent methods I found on internet but both didn't work for me.

Kindly help me asap as it's urgent :(

Thank you in advance

Hi,
Thanks for your prompt response..
Yes I have done that and have put my phone to be updated by iTunes.. that is as it was in recovery mode, I used the restore option by iTunes.. and iTunes is downloading a new IPSW file now and it will update it by itself. I did this because I thought may be the file I downloaded was not properly downloaded.
Let's see what comes out to be the result..

Well btw how will removing that line from host file help? Just want to know the logic behind it :)

you remove that line cause tinyumbrella change it,if remove you contacting apple servers directly.

I am currently having the same issues with mine. I am running iTunes on a MBP though. Could you please tell me where I would locate the file to delete as explained above for a windows user?

Thanks so much in advance!

Few question before we can help;

Are you sure your Iphone is factory unlocked?
How do you know that and where did you buy it from?
Do you have Tiny umbrella download on your PC?

Guys.. thanks all for your support!

I finally figured it out after doing some work..
The actual problem was The IPSW file.... it was corrupt! Downloaded a new one again from apple's server and taddaaa.... it worked like charm :) And took less then 10 minutes for a full restore :)

I am a mac user.

If you are getting any error, then try to use TinyUmbrella either to kick out of recovery mode. Or if you are not getting any error try to use dfu mode for restoration!

Also try to validate your IPSW with sn0wbreeze once if it says Not a valid IPSW then try to download once again from apple's server!

Hi guys,

having the same problem with a factory unlocked iphone 4. Tried downloading firmware but no results, still stuck in itunes' Restoring Iphone Software. Any idea?

Would you elaborate more about no luck with your jailbreak? give us step by step or what error message you received so we can help you to solve problem.

Ok, just changed computer and it worked. For factory unlocked iphone owners, heres is the guide to avoid the 1 bar signal issue:

update normally to 4.3.1
jb with pwnage tool but uncheck the "activate phone"

cheers

few more questions;

1. Which phone do you have? 3GS or iphone4
2. firmware version currently on it?
3. Baseband currently on it?
4. Are you trying to upgrade your phone to the latest firmware and jailbreak it while keeping the baseband or you don't care it baseband update to the latest?

Hi,

it definitely has to do with the computer (i.e. itunes) you are using to jailbreak. I am not able to JB in one of mine while the other allows the JB, although both have the same version of OS and itunes. I will try to find waht make them different and let you know.

Cheers

David
