Hey guys-

I put my phone on airplane mode last night, like I do every night when I go to sleep. When I woke up and turned airplane mode off I saw I had an email so I checked my iCloud email (my main email address). All of my previous emails except for this one new one were gone. There is no more option to see previous emails or search on the server.

I get an important email every day around midnight that did not show up. The one email I did have was from around 2am. Has anyone had this problem? This was all on my iPhone. I will not have computer access until late tonight but need access to ALL my emails. I did a test and can still receive new ones. It's like all my emails before 2am are gone. Not good.

I have tried deleting the iCloud account and all associated data from my iPhone, the re-adding it, but that did nothing.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Have you checked the web portal to see if you are getting e-mails there? Or are you just checking on your phone?

Unfortunately I work in a building without Internet access for security reasons. I have only been able to try via cellular data network. No wifi or computer.

Sadly I have no advice to help your current situation, but I have my most important email account set to forward a copy of all emails to one of my Gmail accounts (which are automatically archived) so I always have a copy of them on another account should the primary screw up.

Not much you can do until you check that. Reboot the phone for good measure just to see if something in the sync somehow got sideways. If that doesn't fix it then you'll need to login to webmail to see if it is all still there. If it is then there is something off on the device. If the mail is gone then you'll need to work with Apple support on getting it restored.

You could turn off Mail Sync and then turn it back on to see if it reloads you mail. That works for Contacts and Calendar. Like getting a new phone.

As I mentioned, unfortunately this did not work. Nor did resetting the phone.

So when I got home and back on wi-fi all of my missing e-mails returned (including the aforementioned midnight e-mail) but now everything I had received today (including the aforementioned 2am e-mail) is gone. This is true both for my iPhone and iCloud.com on my computer. This is extremely frustrating. It's like they reverted my account back in time to some point between midnight and 2am. This is unacceptable. I'm very disappointed.

Mine is down as well: Both Mail.app and using the iCloud wen interface. Might be some maintenance or just a problem has popped up. Lucky all my important email is handled by an Exchange account.

I am having the same problem as well. Not sure what is up with the server. I can't get it on iCloud or using the Mail app. Even went as far as deleting the account form the Mail app....still no go!

Mines is also down. Isnt there a page where we can check what services are down? I remember it being on apples site somewhere but I can't find it.

Mail seems to go down regularly for me. Sometimes limited to servers, so I (and I assume people around me) may be affected and other folks on MacRumors are not. Now, for instance, I can't get to Mail through the OS X Mail App or by logging on through the Internet. I get an error message and a request to send the error to Apple when I log on to iCloud with Safari. In Mail, I just have a message stuck in the Outbox and a spinning beach ball near "Sent" with no effect.

This seems to happen every few days and is disappointing. I don't recall these problems with MobileMe.

Finally status admits a problem:

iCloud: Mail & Notes - 05/10/2012 15:25-16:10 PDT - Users Affected: <1%

Users may have been unable to access iCloud mail. Normal service has been restored.

But although it claims service has been restored, I'm still having slow response time and odd problems.

Down for me here in the UK.

iCloud mail failure

The iCloud email is down in NY as well and has been all day with intermittent functioning yesterday May10th 2012. I have experienced regular outages with iCloud Mail for some time now. All other email address like gmail and my local ISP email all function just fine. I'm using WiFi at home with a strong signal. Internet all works very well.

I wonder if this is related to the recent Mac OS update to v.10.7.4

It is not related with 10.7.4 as I am still running 10.7.3 and face the same issues.

Apple's fabled data centers may look spectacular but the service they're hosting is a piece of crap. Such frequent downtime is absolutely inexcusable for a mail service of the scale and fame.

I regret having switched from gmail to iCloud.

Not working in Montreal, Qc

Kinda regret to have move a lot of my regular emails to the me.com domain.

down for me also, May 14

Despite an all-clear at http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/, iCloud Mail has been flaky and unusable for me all morning. Mail.app on my Mac hasn't been able to download any mail, Mail on my iPad downloads the list of messages (but threaded messages are listed as "This message has no content" and dated 12/31/00, I get occasional 'unable to contact server' messages, and the list of messages stopped updating mid-morning), and mail on iCloud.com is either slow or times out (gives me some message like 'cannot access inbox', or timestamps are given in the wrong timezone, or messages won't open). Annoying.

Same here, it is not working for me and I have very important documents that were emailed to me for work. Uggghh, I'm never trusting Apple's email again, this is going to cost me.

Not working for me either... glad I haven't switched over, I think I'm just going to give up on Apple's e-mail/web services entirely.
