US and UK iTunes question

I will try and keep this short/simple.

I am originally from the UK, now live in US.

I travel back to UK often.

I have 3G iPad and bought my mother a wifi one.

I have my US account (and have apps/books loaded) can I also make a UK account (with my UK address/card and new login) and have BOTH countries app's on my iPad?

I realise I would need to log into different accounts for updates etc. but would this work? Two identities as it were?

If so, I may as well load my mothers iPad with apps I have bought already here in US (it's for her birthday later this month).

Yes you can load apps from different accounts. Syncing will be a PITA though..

Yes it does work. I'm in the same situation (but flip-flop the countries). It becomes a PITA to update apps as your iPhone keeps making you login to the account you bought the app through. You have to update apps individually rather than using "update all".

Having an account in both countries also lets you buy apps at the better price depending on where the currency goes. Be aware some apps that are free in one country are not in the other (Sky Sports Football comes to mind. Free in UK. $4.99 in the US I believe) so always check both. Availability of apps can also be country specific (Sirius/XM for example). It's not available in the UK app store.

I have two different accounts. Syncing is not a pain in the a$$. It syncs just as normal. Only thing is when an app update you have to sign into the itunes store US/EU account from which that item was purchased to update. Takes a second or two, but not any real hassle. The benefits outweigh the negatives IMHO.

Yes it works. I've got a German and an American account, but changing the accounts on the iPad is really a PITA, so I do it on my PowerBook.

If your mother wants to buy something in the us store, you can buy a us-iTunes-gift card and redeem it.


Btw a really great idea for a birthday present !
Wish my kids would've come up with the same idea, but I think it'll be the other way around with us. My iPad is already taken hostage...

Was hoping this was the case.
I always use Mac for downloads etc. So changing accounts/syncing will not be bad.
I have a few things Mum may like so was mainly checking.
She is in her 70's and not on great terms with the windows laptop I got her cpl years ago.
I think an iPad will be ideal for her email use and hopefully more (I.e. Books). No gaurantee she will do much but email and the ease of use/speed of an iPad will surely help her!

^ Recently bought an ipad for a 64 year old relative. First computer device they have ever used. It works logically and as one would expect it to. This is a massive boon for those who find the whole 'learning computer' curve completely off putting.

The iPad and successive devices like it, will be a massive hit with first time computer users I'd wager.

I dare say you are 101% correct!
The whole computer "process" of logging in, booting up, navigating etc. Is still complicated for the older generation (in general), heck it infuriates me at times (why went Mac in first place, to Just Work).
I have no idea what/how much she will use it, after enough years people get content with what they are used to and see less advantage in changing, but I hope she will like/use it. Email and books should be enough to encourage her to pick it up.
For me, the MBP is for my photo editing and office work and iPad for all else
