US Apple TV being used in the UK.

Little brother is going to the US and I would love him to get me an Apple tv and a few gift cards.

My idea of technical skills is being able to use my disk utility programme and so I want to know if using a US box is beyond my limited means! I have read the previous threads so i know I need to set up a US itunes account. Is that all I need to do?

The hardware is the same. The power supply is multivoltage although you'll need a new power cable but otherwise the video output is fully compatible and you might as well run it at the default 720p/60Hz mode as the artefacts of shifting 50Hz material up to 60Hz are less offensive than trying to run say 24fps rentals at 50Hz which looks very juddery.

Also, don't sign up to the US store, use the UK one. If all you want is to get on the US store there is no need to buy an ATV in the US but you do need a US mailing address and credit card.

The reason for buying the box in the US is because it is cheaper, nothing else. Am not worried about getting US content as everything I need is in the UK store.

So it looks like I am good to go!

Now, I wonder if he can get my new imac in his hand luggage?

I have one here in the UK working just fine - you just need a UK 2-pin kettle lead.

I'd recommend getting a US iTunes card - you can fund a US account with it and films come out sooner and are cheaper than the UK.
