US ipod in the UK

Are there any issues with owning a US ipod in the UK? warranty, power etc?

Also how much of a saving can be made? how much is a 60Gb ipod in a store in NY? (I dont know how sales tax works in the US)

Everything works from the opposite side. e.g. to increase the volume, you move from right to left.

I bought a 6gb mini in New York in April. Worked absolutley fine on a 7 year old pc with 1.0 usb. Works even better now i've got my iBook

In New York City the sales tax is 8.375%. I don't know if you can get a student discount since you're from the UK but it would end up costing $433 USD (approx £243). If you could somehow get a student discount it would cost up being $400 USD (approx £224).

It'll be louder than an EU version. No biggie, you don't have to listen to it at 100%.
You'll need to replace the power lead or get a plug adapter. No biggie, and you can use the one from your iBook if you've got one or spend a couple of quid at B&Q.
You'll need to pay import duty of 3% and VAT of 17.5%. Bugger.

If they can be bothered to notice you've got one and are in the mood to collect some taxes they don't need to prove you didn't buy it in the EU, but you'll have to PROVE that you did. I've known people to be forced to pay VAT on their UK bought laptop when they returned from holiday 'cause they couldn't prove they'd already done so.
HM R&C are bastards.

My mate at work got his dad (lived in Cali) to ship us over 2 x 20GB 3G iPods, worked perfectly, saved a fortune. If you can do it, go for it.

I just got a 60GB iPod for 247 in the UK. If you get the Egg Money card and order online you get a 10% cash back.Combine that with a discount code for the Apple store and it's almost as cheap as buying outside the UK.

That's absolutely and unbelievably right. I was at the genius bar at Regent Street and this guy was getting his US iPod mini replaced (under regular warranty) and the guy explained to him about our health and safety meaning the new, UK mini would be quieter. Madness (can we not decide ourselves how loud we want our music?).

Anyway, suffice to say, if you get through customs ok, you'll be fine. There aren't any immediate charger plug issues as new iPods only come with a USB lead and warranty will see you right on a global scale.
