Evening everyone.

I have a quick question, i am looking to get a macbook, I live in the UK. HOwever my girlfriend is off to New York in 2 weeks (sadly i am not going with he ) anyways i am thinking of asking her to get me a macbook. Since the dollar is now so weak against the mighty pound i am making a £220 saving!!!!! However are there any problems with it working in the UK. I am thinking from a charget point of view, i.e. is the charge universal and i can simply buy a UK one for my american mac? Is there anything else I should consider? (other than waiting for leopard, i've waited ages for it.....bothered.......i'll just get one now).

only other question is black or white? I was thinking black but i don't think it wears as well. All the ones in the apple store looked really used and the mouse pads are all shiny and horrid. The white ones track pads look fine.

Warranty, if anything goes wrong you will have to fly to amercia to get it sorted by apple. You can buy a 85watt magsafe plug from apple.com/uk's store.

Not on a portable: all Apple laptops have worldwide warrantees. The charger is universal in terms of voltages and so on (it's autoswitching) but obviously the plug is a US one. Fortunately they are switchable (like iPod ones). Either buy a plug set from Apple (expensive) or buy a standard figure of 8 cable from Maplin (really cheap).

The only issues I see are that 1) you will have a US keyboard; 2) you're girlfriend might get caught smuggling and have to pay the import duty & VAT.

The box will be a bit bulky for the suitcase so it is advised to leave it behind. Start it up put a few documents / pictures on so it looks used.

What's the difference between US and UK keyboard for Macs? I thought they were all the same...

Also, I recommend either leaving the box behind, or putting it in the hold. You could even post it to yourself

The only real difference between the US and UK keyboards is that shift-3 yields a # instead of a £, and the return key is shaped like the shift key not the inverted 'L'. However, if you set the keyboard settings in System Preferences to a UK layout it will behave as a UK keyboard, even thought the keys will be in the US layout.
