Hi,

I currently have a Galaxy S9 (I'm tempted with the iPhone X by the way) with a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone. My backup phone is an iPhone 6S, and I can see why some people would miss Touch ID since it's very very fast.

I see a lot of people mentioning Face ID is not has versatile as Touch ID. With the S9 I have to already pick the phone up to access the fingerprint scanner on the back. i feel like this is pretty similiar to what you have to do with the iPhone X just instead of reaching around to the back you flip up with your finger to unlock the phone.

Is this accurate?

All I'm going to say here is that a lot of people mentioned that TouchID wasn't as versatile as slide to unlock when the iPhone 5s launched.

Look how that turned out.

It's first generation, just like TouchID was with the 5s and a lot of people vented their spleen about how awful it was back then too.

Once second gen FaceID comes out with the new phones no one will remember this was ever an issue.

It's like they expect Apple to just be twiddling their thumbs and not working to improve it or something.

In my opinion, Face ID is fine and I’m sure it will be improved. That said I prefer using a fingerprint reader to access my phone. I’d love it if Apple could put a finger print reader in the Apple logo on the back. That way those who want to use Face ID can, and I could still use Touch ID. Probably won’t happen though.

you can't be serious. NO ONE thought sliding your finger across the screen was move convenient then putting it on a single spot, that also included security....

Fingerprint on the back is the GOAT I think. Touch ID is a step down from the Nexus/Samsung variants I've used. They both work fine but Apple's annoys me far more than the Android versions. Wife likes FaceID and doesn't miss TouchID fwiw.

How quickly you forget. LOTS of people thought TouchID was going to be worse than slide to unlock, just like LOTS of people thought that FaceID was going to be worse than TouchID.

Your memory is wrong. There were many, many, many threads about TouchID. Many people said it was stupid and slower than just swipe to unlock. There were threads about people cutting off thumbs. There were people saying it would never catch on. There were those who felt entering their pass code every time was a far better option. It was quite the circus. And it very much resembled the reactions we see today with FaceID. Same fears, new technology.

This is fair. I think Face ID is great, and I believe it is the future for Apple. But I also truly believe that touch ID was almost perfected in a sense how fast it was to unlock the phone rather quickly, which some find to be more convenient. If Apple did offer both touch ID and face ID, I’m sure that would appease to a larger demographic for those who are upset that touch ID is no longer a future for Apple, even though Apple is not always about offering choices to the consumer like Samsung is.

Touch ID was awful to use in the winter, during or after a workout or right out of the shower. I'm not 100% happy with Face ID but given that I can keep wearing gloves or use it with wet hands AND the real estate gained by not having a physical button, I'll take Face ID 100 times out of 100.

If Samsung pulls it off for S10 and can “read” a fingerprint under glass I’d think that could be a new feature next year’s iPhones.

Even though Apple has said that Face ID is what they are going with and that they never had and do not currently have any plans to use an in display fingerprint sensor?
