USB 3.0 drive not working in Yosemite

Hi. I just bought a Kingston DTR3.0 G2 64 GB USB 3.0 drive, however if I plug it in my early 2013 rMBP it blinks once and then it stops working.

The USB drive does not have any problem and it works perfectly on other OSs, and the USB ports of my Mac work correctly too, since I can connect other drives and they all work.

The USB drive not only can't be mounted, but it doesn't even appear in Disk Utility. However it appears in System Profiler and it is detected and works correctly if I boot my Mac with the ALT key down. Any ideas?

Edit: I just noticed that leaving it connected it becomes hot... not sure if this may be helpful.

How about booting to Safe Mode (hold Shift on boot) and/or the Recovery Partition (Cmd-R on Boot) and checking Disk Utility there just to test?

I just tried both methods out and my Lexar 32 GB USB 3.0 drive shows in both.

I rebooted in Recovery; the USB drive worked perfectly there so I repaired it again with Disk Utility. I left it plugged in the computer and rebooted, and the drive was correctly mounted on Finder and it worked correctly... until I unplugged it. Then it stopped working again as before

I can't reboot in Safe Mode because my SSD is FileVault encrypted.

I could be the external enclosure itself I suppose. Can you reformat the drive somewhere and try again? If it's just that drive, then odds are the drive may have some issues even if it can be seen elsewhere.

There is no external enclosure; by "USB drive" I mean a flash thumb drive. Reformatting doesn't help, and since the drive is brand new I don't think there's a issue with it. I really don't know what's going on...

I also had problem with a USB 3 drive the other day. It was totally dead. Used a USB 2 cable instead and it worked.

I also tried connecting the drive to a USB 2.0 hub and then connecting the hub to the computer, but it didn't work. It just seems like that drive doesn't like that computer.

Or maybe just that install of the beta.

I was having the severe safari issues that were mentioned in the other threads when I updated to DP1 through to DP4, so I formatted, clean installed back to 10.9.4 and restored from TM. When PB1 came out, I installed that and it seemed to resolve many of those issues. I'm wondering if this is along those same lines.

Regardless, I'd say it's enough of a show stopper that it would have some priority before Yosemite is released.

I just verified that the problem occurs on other USB 3.0 drives. I also performed a clean install of OS X Yosemite without results. The only way to use those drives is to leave them connected and reboot the computer. This way, they'll work until they are disconnected. Any further ideas?

This might help:
Try reloading these kexts (they should be responsible for handling USB 3.0, but I don't give any warranty - OS may even crash, but it shouldn't )

sudo kextunload com.apple.driver.AppleUSBXHCI
sudo kextunload com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEHCI

I had trouble with USB3 drives also. First they would not mount and then when I got them to mount they would show nothing in Finder and and then hang and crash.

I couldn't report it because I had to do a hard reset. I gave up and went back to Mavericks.

In beta 1 I also had problems with Finder hanging.
