USB 3.0 on imac?

Has anyone here tried the CalDigit SuperSpeed ExpressCard for Laptops and connected through this device a USB 3.0 external HD that runs at usb 3.0 speed? They have released a mac USB 3.0 driver so this should work just fine and fast. Here's the ink:

I think it goes through the SD slot. The imac has a SD Slot near the DVD?

USB 3 not happening on an iMac until intel includes it in their chipset which won't happen until the end of 2011 at the earliest. Those are Intel's plans, and Apple won't add it themselves.

Error: Try again in 18 months with the next iMac update. Zero chance of making USB3 work with anything but a MacPro or Apple adding USB3 to the lineup until 2012.

Read elsewhere that Intel will introduce USB 3.0 with Ivy Bridge, available in 2012.

More than likely there will be Thunderbolt-->USB 3 cables eventually. There is technically no reason why such a device/cable couldn't exist (and it will exist eventually, IMO).

It will happen but will probably be expensive.

Thunderbolt will be expensive for the first year or two, until it goes mainstream on all intel chipsets and motherboards.

Hard drive manufactures have always charged much more for FireWire because that majority of people wanting them are Mac users who already pay $1000+ for a computer. I don't know a single Windows user that has a FireWire hard drive.

At least thunderbolt is an intel thing so it will get cheaper, one day.

Another route might be... You could remove the airport card and perhaps replace it with a Mini PCIE USB 3.0 card (NEC chipset) and see if it runs in Windows under bootcamp. I haven't found anyone who has done this, though, so perhaps the slot doesn't have full functionality. I believe that unlike the 2009 model some people had problems with the 2010 model getting functionality other than airport out of that slot. If you do find anything in your searches, report back! Unless you are risk averse, I wouldn't want try it unless you have found other users who have had it running stably for some time.

I've seen lots of Windows PCs with Firewire ports though. Copied off Macs...
