Hi all, hope well.
Have a question - I've checked the top sticky but am still none the wiser.

I have a USB flash drive that will only mount when in a hub. I'm confused as power should not be an issue, I've tried it on numerous Macs old and new.
If it helps, details are thus;
USB2.1 Hub:

Product ID: 0x0610
Vendor ID: 0x05e3 (Genesys Logic, Inc.)
Version: 6.54
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/s
Manufacturer: GenesysLogic
Location ID: 0x01110000 / 2
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 100
Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

Flash Drive:

Product ID: 0x1000
Vendor ID: 0x090c (Silicon Motion, Inc. - Taiwan)
Version: 11.00
Serial Number: 0373418050021553
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/s
Manufacturer: Samsung
Location ID: 0x01113000 / 3
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 300
Extra Operating Current (mA): 0
Media:
Flash Drive:
Capacity: 64.16 GB (64,160,400,896 bytes)
Removable Media: Yes
BSD Name: disk4
Logical Unit: 0
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
SMART status: Verified
USB Interface: 0
Volumes:
EFI:
Capacity: 209.7 MB (209,715,200 bytes)
File System: MS-DOS FAT32
BSD Name: disk4s1
Content: EFI
Volume UUID: 0E239BC6-F960-3107-89CF-1C97F78BB46B
disk4s2:
Capacity: 63.95 GB (63,950,647,296 bytes)
BSD Name: disk4s2
Content: Apple_APFS

Any pointers would be helpful. It's not the end of the world, just trying to broaden my understanding.

It should work. My guess is that there is something a little bit "off-standard" with the drive (connector maybe?) that won't allow it to work in your Apple products, and the hub is a little less stringent about requirements.

It's completely baffling to me. But yes, maybe that's it. Apple might use a certain brand of USB port and yeah it could be that.
I'll check it while booted to Windows over the weekend.
Thanks.

If it only works with a hub (with the Mac), then just use it with a hub.
Hmmm....
If you connect it directly to the Mac (no hub), and then open disk utility, does it show up there?

Doesn't work?
USB flash drives are "commodity items" these days.
Just get another one.

I probably will do at some stage and have a few to choose from now, just trying to understand the issue behind it.
Doesn't show up at all unless plugged through the hub.
