USB Bluetooth dongle for 2011 iMac?

I've seen a lot of people discussing internal bluetooth upgrades. Personally I'd be fine with a USB dongle. Is there a well tested way to get handoff etc working with a simple USB dongle, and anyone got any recommendations?
