USB C for guitar and dongle

Hey, I have the new iPad Pro coming tomorrow and I was curious if anyone knows of a way to plug your electric guitar into the iPad with GarageBand.

I usually use it in the road for practicing and not having to haul around my heavy tube amps and cabinet.

I have used iRig in the past, but I was hoping to see if I could use a scarlet since it’s usb and I could do usb a to c

Also, does the usb c multi port adapter (hdmi, usb a, usb c) that Apple has traditionally made work on the iPad?

I believe the dongle does work, I believe it was The Verge's video review that I saw them using it and they didn't have any complaints on it. Obviously we'll know tomorrow for sure, but I remember seeing it in their video i'm pretty sure

I plan on just using a usb c to head phone jack with my irig

Yeah, the Scarlett should work. If you do use the USB-C multi-port adapter just be sure and keep power plugged into the adapter before you hook up your Scarlett. USB audio interfaces tend to need more power than what iOS sends.

If you watch the Verge review on YouTube you’ll see that they actually tried this with a NI maschine and couldn’t get it to work. They were using the multi-port adapter but didn’t have any power plugged in. User error

I imagine an iRig HD 2 would also easily work using a USB-C to Micro-USB cable. I use one with my 10.5" iPad Pro and prefer it to something bigger like a Scarlett since the iPad can power the iRig HD 2 and thus you don't need external power.
