Hi gang, how are you?
I currently have a 2019 27'' iMac and a 2017 15'' MBP. I am going to sell one because I'm moving. I know the iMac is a GREAT Computer and I'll probably regret getting rid of it, but I think I'll keep the MBP. What I will miss is the amazing picture on the big screen. So, can you recommend a cable, say 15 feet to go to my HDMI Port on one of my Smart TVs?

Probably would be cheaper just to use an existing HDMI cable and this adapter or one like it (I have this one and it works perfectly):

P.S. It was only $10.99 USD when I bought it on Amazon in 2021, and I see it's now $17.99 - quite the increase (though still far cheaper than an Apple adapter), so you might want to check if you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

Would this be good, or could it be a piece of junk?

It has fairly decent reviews, but if you want to be on the safe side, this one has far more reviews with the same 4.5 star rating and is from a well-known brand, though it's more expensive:

Hi again gang. I received the HDMI-USB C Cable yesterday, and just had a chance to try it today. I started to watch the image on the Hisense TV, and within 5 minutes..my 15'' MBP was on fire! The fan or fans were working like I have never heard them, and the Mac itself was REALLY hot. I disconnected the cable immediately and the fans stopped right away.
Do you think it's just too dangerous ..where I could damage or ruin my Mac? Do you think I'd just be better off getting a slightly used 2021 iMac 24''? If so..do I need all the bells and whistles? I do no gaming, or editing. I'm a full time musician that surfs The Web, does wmail..and comes to a few Forums (like this one)

Apple offers an adapter for USB-C to HDMI, get that and use your favorite HDMI cable.

jav, thank you very much. Is this the one?
I looked around on a few Apple/Mac Forums, and it seems that a number of people have been having the same problem that I just experienced. And they have tried different Cables and/or Adapters. Have you (or anyone else here) tried this Apple Adapter? I would hate to spend ANOTHER $70 (plus a new HDMI Cable) to have the same problem of overheating.

Have you ever try projecting your MBP screen to the smart TV wirelessly?
You just need to connect both of them to the same wired/wireless network.
If your smart TV doesn't support this function (too aged model), you can just buy an old Apple TV 4k.
Maybe connecting them wirelessly will not heat-up the MBP.

I did mirror the MBP to the Hisense TV wireless using the network, and it worked fine. It didn't heat-up at all, but I went and bought the HDMI Cable because there was a 3-4 second latency going that route.

Hey gang, I am finally back. I had no electricity for 9 days and no internet for nearly 2 weeks. I live in Port Charlotte, and we to a direct hit from the Hurricane.
Any new thoughts on why my MacBook Pro would be nearly ready to ignite??

I have some thoughts, but they won't help you solving the problem anyhow.
- Bad Thunderbolt chip on the MBP.
- Bad cable (long cable need to be of very good quality). Try changing to a shorter cable or different cable.
- Bad HDMI port on the TV. Try testing on another monitor if possible.
