Hello

I was wondering (as I need 2 new power cables for my old macbook pro) which is pricey, I was wondering if or how can I have my old macbook pro which I only recently got back working (with 2 badly damaged chargers), would be able to run using the new macbook pro usb-c chargers with usb-c to magsafe power adapters I have seen online? Example https://www.amazon.co.uk/JYL-Magsafe1-Adapter-Compatible-Macbook/dp/B07VGFMFCF/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=USB-c+to+magsafe&qid=1585059927&s=electronics&sr=1-5&th=1

If no, would any third party power adapters work for my macbook pro [if so what ones]

Might work, but notice they were very careful to say MacBook Air. That is a low power system. There may not be enough power for any power hungry systems like a MacBook Pro. For those you need at least a 45W USB-C charger, not something from a Switch or phone. And it may not even work because with USB-C voltage and current is not fixed, but rather set by the device saying what it needs and the charger saying what it can supply.

I would just get a dedicated Magsafe charger, preferably from Apple

I didn't think this would work, it was just an idea to get a charger on the cheap as I don't have £160 for new ones, but safety is my main concern which is why I need a new ones asap. I only have 1 that charges my macbook pro but has all the rubber coating coming off.

Well I bought a usb-c to magsafe 2 cable off aliexpress and I have been using it with a 2013 retina 13” for over a year now, works both with an Apple USB-C brick as well as my portable HP Spectre USB-C powerbank :) I just dug out my old 2009 13” pro and will mod one of it’s old broken chargers to a usb-c end. I would guess I can buy a USB-C to magsafe 1 on aliexpress too, so if my test works, I will do exactly that.

As Magsafe 2 works I see no reason why magsafe 1 wouldn’t work, will report back once I’ve tried it out :)

Most of the USB C to MagSafe adapters I've tested only support 60W, even if they claim higher. I can't find it on Amazon anymore, but one which did NOT advertise 85W actually supports 85W.

It differs from most of them by having metal casing on both usb c and MagSafe ends, where most of the others have plastic (or rubber?) on at least the usb c end.
