Im trying to play a movie on my smart tv using a usb drive. Ive formatted it as MS-DOS FAT but the drive isnt found on the smart tv. Ive also formatted other usb drives by the same method and th drive isnt recognised in Windows 7. Im beginning to think that maybe Disk Utility isnt formatting the usb drive correctly although MS-DOS FAT formatting is selected. Whats is going on? Has this occurred to anyone else?

Have you tried formatting your USB drive on your Windows system?
(Fat32 will have a file size limit of 4GB - so you will need to watch out for that with movies.)

Did you format with Master Boot Record or GUID Partition Map? I think it should be Master Boot Record.

Try MBR instead of GPT.
Do any of the files in the 35 GB of data have a size greater than 4 GB (check the originals, sort by size)?
