Is there such thing as a USB-Firewire adapter? I have some files stored in a Firewire Disk that I need access to. Unfortunately, MBA does not have firewire, and I dont have my other computer with me to do remote/shared disk. can someone here help?
i asked this a while ago. Apparently firewire and USB are fundamentally different technologies, and the way the write data is not the same. that drive adapter the guy posted above seems to be the only thing i've seen.. if it can do what you need.
To import HDV to a mac without firewire, wouldn't a memory card reader designed for the HDV camera solve this problem without sacrificing video quality/dropping frames?
I'm desperately trying to find a way around this problem without having to upgrade to a whole new computer. PLEASE HELP!

You should probably start a new thread ... but I'll bite.
HDV is normally (always???) recorded onto digital tapes. There are no readers for HDV tapes. You will need FW to capture the video.
What Mac do you have? Depending on what you have, you might want to look at the BlackMagic line of products. Note - I have not used these products, but they might be able to do what you need.
