Hi,

I bought these adapters to be able to connect my Anker USB 3.0 hub (connected to four external hard drives) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HZ6PS61/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

Anker USB C to USB Adapter High-Speed Data Transfer, USB-C to USB 3.0 Female Adapter for MacBook Pro 2020, iPad Pro 2020, Samsung Notebook 9, Dell XPS and More Type C Devices

They work in the Mac Studio front USB 3.1 ports, but I prefer for it to be plugged in the back.

Is it SAFE for me to connect the Hub with this adapter to the Studio Display? Would the speed be the same? Every time I think I understand all these different options, I get blocked!

Thanks for your help!

Gloria

Those adapters should work from any USB-C port that supports USB 1.1 (12 Mbps), USB 2.0 (480 Mbps), or USB 3.0 (5 Gbps). They might work with USB 3.1 gen 2 devices (10 Gbps) but I would prefer adapters that actually advertise 10 Gbps.

The USB ports of the XDR only support up to 5 Gbps but I would get the 10 Gbps in case you want to use them with something else.

You might find that the USB ports of the XDR have faster sequential read/write speed compared to the USB ports of the Mac Studio (at least for USB devices up to 5 Gbps) because of issues with M1 USB controller or driver (the XDR has a different USB controller) but I don't think you would notice a difference.

Thank you so much for your reply! I in fact, thought these supported up to 10 and they do not. As you recommended, I purchased those and am going to return the ones I have. I am not using them on the Display anymore, because all of a sudden the two hard drives I had connected were ejected. I was using those adapters.

Thanks for your help!
