I know quite a few USB sticks with lightning connector on the other end have popped up. IDiskk, leef ibridge etc. And they all have their own proprietary apps to work.

My question is since apps can be made to work with all NAS drives, hard drives on networked computers etc like FileBrowser for one example, is it possible for these developers to also include all these USB to lightning sticks too? Or is it that each stick is so different it would not be possible?

It would be great if FileBrowser could also include those sticks as well as it’s pretty close to being the one unified file manager app. (Not apples files app but the paid FileBrowesr app in the App Store).

These usb readers don’t generally have a WiFi radio in them. If they do then they’ll just automatically work as part of the wireless network.

If you’re talking about the ability to mount the external drives while physically attached to the phone then they need to know the drivers and hardware configuration to be able to support any external attachment as a “drive”. Which might not be possible due to IP restrictions the manufacturers impose.

It’s the USB flash sticks with a lightning connector on one end. I assumed they had drivers in the software but was hoping those drivers could be available to other devs so that a universal app could be made that supports all of them.

Actually I have a workaround. It seems the My Passport Wireless Pro Drive acts as a HUB and recognizes them when plugged into its USB slot and it shows as a share under the Passport Drive on File Browser allowing easy drag and drop between the USB stick, the passport drive, the phone and all clouds.
