Hi,

Recently (not sure if it was immediately after El Capitan upgrade or not), my mobile USB dongle stopped working.

I have tried re-installing it and nothing. Now, every time I try to install it it prompts an error like: Software not installed. "There is nothing to install to..."

I have bought a brand new dongle and I get the same error.

Dongle is HUAWEY.

I guess I need to complete uninstall the dongles's software/drivers etc. But how do I do that? I have deleted the 3-COM 3.5G application from the application folder

but it didn't help. I am sure there are other files spread around other system folder.

Can anyone help how to wipeout all remaining components from this installation, so that I can install it again?

Thank you in advance

joni

ps- the drivers of these dongles are very tricky. I remember that I have installed generation 1 of the dongle in my daughters MBP. Then we bought the second generation of the dongle and we failed to installed on her MBP. The software of the new dongle would not install at all on top of the other installation.

So I really need to learn how to completely remove the installation so that I can solve all these problems on various machines.

It has been my memory that these software packages usually come with an uninstaller included in the folder. Either way the provider is usually the best source of answers on their product. Failing that you e download an app called Find Any File. This a bit like the regular Finder but more thorough. You will need to search for anything with a similar name and delete it. In future try App Trap a free extension which searches for associated files when you trash an application.

Hi Rodan52,

No, there is no uninstall on the folder or anywhere.
I have tried using the finder to find files with similar names etc. Tried everything and nothing works.
It looks like something is broken and need repair.
If I install this dongle on another mac with no previous installations it works just fine.
Anyone? Please advise.
thank you

Buggyflayer, thank you.
Apparently the dongle is a ZTE MF193M. Only realised that when I found the original case (as there is nothing written on the dongle).
I cannot seem to find the software/drivers for OSX el captain.
please advise

The Huawei software didn't cope with System Integrity Protection introduced with El Capitan. They have released updated software for lot of their devices, their 'Mobile Partner' software supports several of their older dongles too. Follow the links for the El Capitan capable update for your device from here.

Ask ZTE if they have a solution for El Capitan on the form
http://www.ztedevice.com/support/70b691cf-727b-4ba6-a6f7-aea6d947c808.html?type=software#

meanwhile, backup your Mac

Now read this

If you are comfortable experimenting with the Terminal and also recognise that you are putting your Mac in a more vulnerable state:

restart & try to reinstall the software you have for the dongle

If it does work, while you are connected, take a screenshot of the settings for the dongle in System Preferences/Network

re-enable SIP

ignore the ZTE software and try and see if you can get the dongle to connect directly from System Preferences/Network using the settings you captured above
