USB mouse freezes when an USB SSD drive gets plugged in a MacBook M3 Max

When I plug an usb SSD drive in to the m3, it freezes the mouse until I pull out the mouse and plug it in again. Does anyone know why this is happening and any solutions to this issue is greatly appreciated.

maybe use a bluetooth mouse

Thanks for your input.

I resolved the issue by going to System Settings > Privacy & Security and scrolling down on the right hand side of the panel until I got to 'Allow accessories to connect' and selected 'Automatically When Unlocked' from the drop down menu.
