I can't get a version 0.68 OC Legacy Patcher USB installer to automatically go into Recovery mode on my Mac Pro (westmere), so I can format the targeted drive, then begin the install process on it. Instead, after clicking on the efi boot option (after an option key held down reboot), and then choosing the install OS Monterey option, the computer goes into a startup process (with apple logo and progress line), then gives me a permanent dark screen with a slightly blue tint. That's as far as things get.. no matter whether it's from startup or a restart.

I created this usb installer on another very similar Mac Pro 5,1, and installed the same OC Legacy patcher Monterey without issues on its identical PCIe mounted Samsung AHCI SSD primary boot drive (an early NVMe drive). Both computers had a DosDude patched version of Catalina 15.7 installed, and I have no idea why the OC legacy patcher can't complete an install of Monterey on both computers. Both have GPU's with metal support.

The one in the successfully upgraded Mac Pro has an NVIDIA GeForece GTX680 2GB GPU.. and the problematic one has an AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB GPU.

I'm also wondering if the problem could be caused by the usb installer having been created on the other Mac Pro. I have belatedly installed the OCLP software on this 2nd computer, but it doesn't make any difference.

I would really appreciate it if someone could steer me straight on this one. I've tried to register with both Dortania's and Giuthub's forums, but their registration software doesn't seem to be working sufficiently to let me log in after signing up.

Thanks

Hey droo, so what really sticks out to me is this: in the 5,1 with legacy patcher you need to use a usb hub to get the hold option. Something about the keyboard and mouse being 1.1 architechture and oclp not being able to read 1.1 until after things are installed.(thats not completely accurate word for word but i hope you understand) Also when you create a usb installer from another option it wont automatically apply root patches as if you did them with the oclp patcher app. So get your self a usb 2.0 hub, wipe the usb thumb drive , recreate the installer within oclp app and things should go smoother and according to plan. truly do hope this helps. if it does please just come back and report it, just to confirm that im not an idiot..lol. thanks

Thanks! This sounds very helpful. I forgot to mention that the installation on the other Mac Pro 5,1 was achieved with an old Microsoft keyboard. So I'll swap keyboards for starters, and also create a fresh installer on the problematic Mac Pro as suggested, to see if that works.. will post an update shortly.

Following the great advice given in response to my plea for help, I created a fresh OCLP usb installer, and changed keyboards as well, just in case. The install Monterey on a PCIe mounted Samsung AHCI sata drive procedure worked perfectly, without issues. So I can confirm creating a fresh usb OCLP OS installer for each separate computer, if more than one needs to be upgraded is absolutely necessary. Thanks again..
