Hello,

I've read some comments that this card worked with the 7.1, even tho the manufacturer says it doesnt. It shows up in the PCI cards menu, but nothing I plug into it works. It does give power tho.

The manufacture clearly states it doesn't work with Mac OS. I would be suspicious of some random internet posts claiming it does.

do not know now if the 7.1 still supports PCIe 1x ?
All PCIe slots support x1 cards. All PCIe cards should work in a x1 slot (with adapter/riser if it doesn't physically fit).

What USB controller does the FebSmart use? Name? Vendor/Device ID? So we know to avoid it.

Mac supported PCIe USB cards listed at

PCI Vendor and Device ID are listed in:

That's a uPD720201 USB 3.0 Host Controller.
Vendor is Renesas (1912) which was previously NEC (1033).

It's not Mac compatible out of the box. Maybe a third party driver will make it work but I don't know how reliable that will be. Even if you know about kexts, you should probably avoid this. https://sourceforge.net/projects/genericusbxhci/
You'll want to change the code so it only attaches to that controller.

The screenshot you showed says the driver is loaded. Does the controller appear as a USB bus in
About this Mac -> System Report -> USB?
If you connect a device, does it appear in the USB list (press command-R to refresh System Information.app)?
Maybe it's working but extremely slowly (takes an hour to mount a USB flash drive?)

The Curse of NEC USB...
You may have better luck with a specific frescoLogic or Asmedia based controllers. There are threads dedicated to the use of the controllers without any modification to MacOS.

It powers the usb devices, but not of them show up.

I think its gonna be safer to go for one of the Sonnet USB cards. More expensive but at least they work.

Not sure why you show a screenshot of the T2 Bus. Does one of those other USB buses have the PCI Vendor and Device ID of the uPD720201?

But definitely consider a different USB card.
