I have a 27" 2013 non-retina iMac with the 3.2ghz / 1tb hdd / 8 gigs.
A few days ago, my iMac randomly had an Alert / Warning / Notification stating that the USB ports were powered down due to something drawing too much power.
The only thing plugged into the USB ports was a wireless transceiver. However, the mouse continued to work. In fact, all 3 other ports work great with a) a printer; b) an external dvd drive; and c) the wireless mouse transceiver.
The port that failed is closest to the Thunderbolt ports.
When I plug the mouse transceiver into this port, I get nothing.
Hard reset didn't fix it.
SMC reset didn't fix it.
A chat with Apple support ended in the support tech telling me to "bring it into the store for a look."
I have Applecare that is good until 2017, so I am not worried about the cost of the repair. However, I am concerned about the time it will take them to complete it.
I use my iMac for work and my wife uses it for school... I expect the machine to be gone for at least 10-14 days while they repair it.
Does anyone have any experience with this exact issue? Is there an easy fix that I have overlooked?
