USB power surge

When I was syncing my whitePhone for the first time it gave me an error message saying there was a power surge in the USB. Anyoneelse have this problem? Can it damage my iPhone?

Are you connecting directly to your machine or though a hub of some sort? I saw this the first time I connected through my logitech audiohub. I've since just used it connected directly to my laptop and haven't seen it since.

It's directly plugged into my laptop (Dell 8600... I know, I'm getting a new MacBook soon - my old one got stolen). It only happens when I try to sync it. But, it disables the USB port, and won't even charge my phone.
