I can't get Sidecar in current Mac OS Monterey to work between a 2017 iMac and an original iPad Pro via USB. Anyone know why?

  • I want to use it wired because it's constantly dropping when doing it wireless. When I force wifi OFF on the iPad to force it to use USB, Mac OS tells me to activate wifi OR connect via USB.
  • Yes, the iPad Pro is connected directlyto the iMac with a Lightning to USB connection.
  • Yes, I already did the "trust this computer" process days ago when I first got this iMac (used). I can view the iPad in Finder as expected.
  • I tried removing references to iPads from the NetworkInterfaces.plist, logging out and in again and also rebooting, to recreate the connection from scratch, but it did not help.
  • 2 Factor Authentication is enabled.

One of sidecar's requirements is to have 2FA enabled on your Apple ID. You didn't specify that so was wondering if it was the cause of it not working :p
Sidecar starts on wifi. It just doesn't work for crap. It continuously disconnects and reconnects. That's why I want to use USB instead. As usual, there seems to be no fix for more broken features left unfinished by Apple as they move at warp speed to the next thing they want to push out the door broken and unfinished. The state of things in this industry is absolutely appalling. I find new bugs literally every day. No exaggeration.
