Hi there, I noticed a while back that transfers between my USB drive to my iMac was very slow... I thought, ok it must be my USB drive that's got a very slow transfer rate... but then one day I used it on my MBP... wow!!! real fast! The only thing is that my iMac is a 2008 model, and MBP a 2006 model. they both have only 2.0 USB ports!

Please can someone help me there? thanks a lot.

I've been looking in the forums, I can't find and accurate answer to my prob, so I did a new post. If it has already been answered, I'm really sorry for posting that.

Where are you plugging the USB drive into on the iMac? Keyboard or directly to the back of the machine?

If it's plugged into the keyboard, that may be your bottleneck because it can't sufficiently power the device.

Have you tried a different USB port with the imac? A couple months ago I was having some trouble with slow USB 2.0 file transfers with my MBP. Then someone suggested to try a different port. Then my transfers started going 10x as fast. This was with a WD 2.5'' portable external drive, USB powered. I wonder if the iMac has the same issue where the usb ports are powered differently.
