hey all, quick one. I have a 2011 MBP (13", upgraded ram and SSD/HDD) that since updating to El Capitain can not detect my USB webcam. Ive reset SMC to no avail. Tested camera on 2012 MBA Yosemite and works just fine.

Is this a known issue with El Cap or does anyone know of a solution?

Webcam is microsoft xbox live cam used for astrophotography auto guiding.

Update on this, I've not installed the GM and still the same problem. Rebooting with the camera connected sometimes finds it, often doesn't. So far other USB devices (usb flash drive, arduino uno board) seem to work alright.

Any ideas? Its really quite inconvenient.

Oh I tried to raise a hardware feedback ticket, feedback caused the machine to hang! Great!

I guess it depends on the camera - I attach my Cintiq Companion 2 to the Mac and it's camera is recognized as an external USB camera. If that works, I'm guessing an ordinary plug-and-play camera should work too.

Sorry, no help there, but perhaps a clean install once the El Capitan is officially out will sort things out.

If it's UVC compliant it should work but Apple has cared less and less for universal standards recently. Guess you will have to wait until Sept 30.
